Vice President for Research

The Office of the Vice President for Research has a new leader at the helm, Josh Gladden, who joined Temple in August 2023 and brings a wealth of experience to his new role. With the university’s growing research portfolio, it is crucial to have a leader committed to engaging with the institution’s schools, colleges and centers to better understand their goals, assets and challenges. The Research Office has an unwavering resolve to continuously improve its policies, services and initiatives.

Rendering of the new Innovation Nest Space

INNOVATION NEST (iNEST)

Located in Temple’s Health Sciences campus, the Innovation Nest (iNest) is a large space designed to connect and guide researchers, innovators, entrepreneurs, and startups. It offers many resources, including labs, high throughput computing, co-working and flex spaces, a pitch presentation zone, meeting and event rooms, and a cafe. Led by Executive Director J. Todd Abrams, the iNest will hold its Grand Opening March 2024.

Research Space and Equipment Assessment

Temple University is home to several world-class research facilities, including a Biosafety Lab, Ambler Field Station, and the Brain Research & Imaging Center. To increase access and support collaborative research efforts, the Research Office will investigate opportunities for shared research facilities and work with the relevant stakeholders to develop a framework for managing access, liability, and costs. We will develop guidelines to optimize sharing and maximize participation.

Temple University Research Council

In Fall 2023, the Temple University Research Council (TURC) was formed to assist campus leadership in advancing the research enterprise of the university. Members work with the provost and vice president for research to identify opportunities to grow and bring recognition to research activities and programs. Through the TURC, the Temple research community has a voice in policy changes and compliance processes, allocation of resources, major campus-wide and interdisciplinary research programs and issues, and strategic planning.
