Foundational Principles

Three foundational principles run beneath every priority in Forward with Purpose. They describe how we will carry out the work and include the plan's cross-cutting projects that strengthen multiple priorities at once.

Innovation for Excellence

Creating a culture that encourages fresh ideas and approaches

  • Invest in ideas that cut across colleges and disciplines, and reward units that collaborate.
  • Adopt proven practices from peer institutions, including the University Innovation Alliance, rather than reinventing them.
  • Use artificial intelligence and data deliberately in teaching, research and administration, with clear governance for responsible use.

Partnerships

Driving meaningful outcomes through collaboration

  • Build partnerships that serve both Temple and its partners, with shared goals and clear accountability.
  • Make it easier for students, faculty and neighbors to find Temple's partners and work with them.
  • Draw on the alumni network as a source of opportunity for students and connection for the university.

Operational and Financial Strength

Optimizing resources and minimizing obstacles

  • Keep expenses within revenue and direct resources toward the plan's priorities through the budget model.
  • Grow and diversify revenue through enrollment, philanthropy, research funding and partnerships.
  • Simplify processes and modernize systems so that time goes to the mission rather than the paperwork.
